Christy

My name is Christy and I am an eighth grader at Brooklyn East Collegiate Charter School. I am the youngest of four siblings. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, where I still live with my mom. Both of my parents are from Haiti. I dance majorette and hip hop at school, and am also a nail technician and singer. I also love the outdoors. My mom is my hero because whenever I’m in danger or sad, she always protects me. One of my favorite quotes from Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech is “we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood.” Kings’ words remind me if we put in enough work and effort, we can make a difference in this world.

I joined BEC2BAMA because I want to learn more about Black history.  This program can change me as a person by changing my mindset and goals. I care about Black History because I am of the Black race and want to learn more about my history and where I came from. I care about the Civil Rights Movement because I see what other Black people have done for me and the Black community.
