Shania

My name is Shania. I am an African American who is hard working, respectful, smart, and a dream chaser. I want to be a part of BEC2BAMA because when I was in fifth grade I saw my older peers going to Alabama and learning things never in text books, so decided when I got to eighth grade I would learn more about my history. As a child history was my best subject and passion. I loved going deeper and deeper into history.

As an African American woman, I have always worked hard for what I wanted because opportunities like BEC2BAMA are not just handed to people, especially African Americans. I work hard not just for myself, but so that when I get older my family can look up to me. If my family is genuinely inspired by me, I will become a role model to others and change the world for the better.

When I grow up I want to be neurologist because studying the brain is exciting and I want to discover new things. However, I also want to be an actress because I enjoy playing different people. Don’t get me wrong, I love my life, but stepping into other people’s shoes, even if it’s fiction, teaches you unexpected lessons. For example, when I was in first grade, I had better grades than this white girl in our class, but my white teacher chose her over me. That was when I realized you’re never too young or old to accomplish something or learn a lesson. Overall, I’m a shy girl who wants to accomplish things in life, but is also humble and sweet.
