Jayden Walker

My name is Jayden Walker. I was born in Brooklyn. My mother’s family is from Jamaica, and my father’s side is primarily American. My family is also very large, so I won’t name all of them. When I grow up, I want to be known as the greatest edge rusher to ever play football because I really love the game. My hero is Iron Man because he works with advanced technology, is successful, and is also a philanthropist. If he were real, he would put a “suit of armor around the world” and keep everyone safe.

The greatest quote from the Civil Rights Movement is “The time is always right to do what’s right,” from the one and only Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I like this powerful quote because it reminds us that we can always do what’s right and call for change.

I recently joined a group called BK2BAMA. It’s really nice, and we primarily learn about Black history and dive deeper into the culture of this nation was call home. As young people, we come together and talk about Black history. We go on trips to places like the Metropolitan Museum of Art and met with people like Kamau Ware, a historian and illustrator who gave us a tour of Wall Street and talked about Black life in 17th and 18th-century New York. I joined BK2BAMA, not for the trips but to gain even more knowledge about those who came before me. BK2BAMA culminates in a weeklong trip to Alabama and Georgia over our spring break.
