I am Jamaican and not too long ago moved to the U.S. I like playing football, but not American football because I am bad at it. I am enjoying my time in the U.S. It’s very fun attending Uncommon Bed-Stuy East Middle.
My favorite Civil Rights figure is A. Philip Randolph because he created the first successful Black trade union, the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters. Randolph led this union and got it accepted into the American Federation of Labor.
One of my favorite Malcolm X quotes is “Nobody can give you freedom. Nobody can give you equality, or justice, or anything. If you’re a man, you take it.” This quote sticks out to me the most.
I’ve always wanted to be a lawyer, especially an immigration lawyer, as I would be able to help people like my parents and many other Latinx immigrants who are in the process of becoming citizens.
I want to grow up to be a professional soccer player, but if that doesn’t work I want to be a lawyer. Martin Luther King, Jr. said “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” and “Power concedes nothing without a demand.”
My favorite civil rights activist is Martin Luther King Jr. and my favorite MLK quote is “The time is always right to do what is right.” But my hero is my mom because she works hard and sacrifices to give my sisters and me what we need.
Ever since I was four I wanted to be a doctor. I still hope to be a neurosurgeon when I grow up because I want to save people’s lives, while still working in psychology too.
I speak five languages and play basketball. When I grow up, I want to be a basketball player, nurse, and model because I like pushing myself to grow stronger, caring for others, and dressing up to look fabulous.
